Create a Gmail Account Without Your Phone Number

Google sometimes lets you create a Gmail account without a phone number — whether it asks depends on things like your device, browser and region. When it does ask, you can verify with a virtual number instead of your own: buy a Google number, enter it, and the code appears in your panel. Then add a recovery email and 2-Step Verification, because the number won’t stay yours.

Can you create a Gmail account without a phone number?

Sometimes. Google’s own help pages describe adding a phone number as optional when you create an account, and some sign-ups have no phone step at all, or a Skip button. But Google also says phone verification is sometimes required to protect accounts and stop spam. Whether you see it varies with your device, browser, network and region — you may get the phone step on one device and not on another.

Phone verification can also come back later: Google may ask for a code during a security check, for example after a sign-in it finds unusual.

How to verify Gmail with a virtual number

  1. Sign up for a free account and top up by QRIS or USDT.
  2. In the panel, choose Google / Gmail and a country. The price is locked before you buy.
  3. On Google’s sign-up page, when it asks for a phone number, select the number’s country and paste the number.
  4. Choose to get the code by text message. It appears in your panel within moments; type it into Google.
  5. If Google offers to use the number for more Google services, choose Skip. The number is only for this verification.
  6. Finish the sign-up and go straight to the security steps below.

“This phone number cannot be used for verification”

This message means Google won’t accept that particular number. Google limits how many accounts each phone number can create and how often a number can be used for verification, and a number that was used before may already be at that limit. A related message is “This phone number has been used too many times for verification”.

Waiting won’t change it. Instead:

  • Cancel the number. No SMS arrived, so your balance comes back automatically.
  • Buy a Google number from a different country and try again.
  • If Google offers a voice call, go back and choose a text message — our numbers receive SMS.
More help with codes that don’t arrive: verification code not received.

Secure the account once you’re in

  • Add a recovery email you’ll always have access to — not a temporary inbox.
  • Turn on 2-Step Verification with an authenticator app or a passkey where Google offers it, so future sign-ins don’t depend on SMS to a number you no longer have.
  • Check the phone number on the account. If the temporary number was saved, remove it under Personal info in your Google Account, or replace it with a number you keep.
  • Save backup codes somewhere safe.

If Google asks for a code again later

Google may ask for a phone code again during a security check, for example when you sign in from a new device or another country. If the account was verified with an OTP number, that code won’t reach you. This is why the steps above matter: with a recovery email, an authenticator app or a passkey, Google can usually confirm it’s you another way. Signing in from a device you’ve used before also helps.

For a long-term account, use a number you keep

An OTP number is for one verification and is released afterwards. That’s fine for a test account or a secondary inbox you protect with a recovery email and 2-Step Verification. For an account you’ll depend on for years — your main email, a business account, anything linked to payments — use your own number, or rent a number you can renew while it’s active. Permanent virtual numbers explains how rentals work.

And if you only need an address to receive one confirmation email, a private temporary email may be enough — no Gmail account needed.

Frequently asked questions

Why does Google ask for my phone number?

Google says it uses phone verification to protect accounts and stop spam. Whether it asks depends on factors like your device, browser and region.

What if Google says the number cannot be used for verification?

That number has hit Google’s limits. Cancel it — the refund is automatic because no SMS arrived — and try a number from another country.

Which country should I choose for a Google number?

Any country listed for Google in the panel can work. If Google refuses one number, cancel and try another country; the panel shows each price before you buy.

Can I remove the phone number from my Gmail later?

Usually yes, in your Google Account’s personal info settings. Set up a recovery email and 2-Step Verification first.

Can I use a temporary email as the recovery email?

No. A recovery address must be one you can open for years. Temporary inboxes are for one-off confirmations, not account recovery.
